VALMIKI HISTORY
BHAGWAN VALMIK JI
Bhagwan Valmik Ji is considered to be the first poet of the Sanskrit language and is renowned all over the world for his famous SAMPURAN RAMAYANAN, an epic narrative of ancient Indian history. The Ramayana was written circa 5th Century Before the Common Era (BCE). He is revered as Ādi Kavi, the first poet, and author of Ramayana.
The MAHA RAMAYAN (complete Ramayan) consists of two volumes, the first being the RAMAYAN of Lord Ram and the second, the YOG VISHISTH.
The first volume describes the epic life of Lord Rama, whilst the YOG VISHISTH leads us to final liberation by guiding humankind towards peace of mind, unity and fraternity.
Both holy Sampuran Ramayan books were written in the ancient language of Sanskrit, making them some of the oldest holy books in history. These volumes were written in verse and are considered to be some of the greatest works of poetry. In addition to these two volumes, Bhagwan Valmik Ji also wrote RAM SAMVANDH and AKSHAR LAKSHYA.
The birthplace of Bhagwan Valmik Ji was Multan (in modern Pakistan) during the DRAVIDIAN era. It is stated in Hindu Darma Kosh by Dr.Raj Bali Pandey, that Bhagwan Valmik Ji was born to mother CHARSHANI and father VARNU PARCHETA. Mother Charshani was a very religious and venerating woman who had a great influence on Bhagwan Valmik Ji’s early life.
This is said to be the main reason why Bhagwan Valmik Ji spent his childhood, up to 25 years of age, with his elder brother MAHARAJ NARAD JI in his ashram at KIRAN PUR near SRI NAGAR, Kashmir. During this period Bhagwan Valmik Ji gained knowledge in religion, music, verse, science, and languages, as well as mental and physical fields. In fact, Bhagwan Valmik Ji became such a highly respected and renowned Sage that people revered him and sought his counsel on all matters.
It is said that the RAMAYAN and YOG VASHISTH were written on BRAHMA Ji’s advice. Guru Rishi Bhardwaj was Bhagwan Valmik Ji’s first disciple, who achieved final liberation (Mukti, Moksha), followed by King ASHTARNEMI, Lord SHIVA, Lord RAM, and many others. By guiding these great sages to achieve final liberation Bhagwan Valmik Ji has been given several titles such as AADH KAVI (first poet), MUSIC MASTER, AATAM DARSHI (Self Knowledge) BRAHAM GYANI (Knowledge of God) and MAHA MUNI (Great SAGE).
The writer MURARI JI describes Bhagwan Valmik Ji as the indicator of Godliness and the writer KALI DASS refers to Bhagwan Valmik Ji as JAGAT GURU (World Guru). Bhagwan Valmik Ji was and is held in such high esteem that even Lord Krishna attended and washed his feet during PANDAV JAGYA.
